What if the blank tile covers a triple word square?

by Linda Andrew
(Scotland)

Suppose there was a long word down the board and a long word across the board, placed so that a person could put an "S" on a triple word square and get the triple word for the two words. If this "S" was a blank tile would they still be entitled to the triple word score because of the "blank"?

Hi Linda. Yes, they sure would. The blank tile entitles you to the same privileges as any lettered tile would - it's just that it happens to have a face-value of zero.

In particular, Double and Triple Word Squares still get counted when they are covered by a blank. So in your situation, both words get tripled.

Thanks for asking.
