It may be that they are using jargon that you do not understand or that they are not forming sentences properly and so you have problems following them period.

Either way, it can be a little disconcerting. If your vocabulary is not up to scratch then others may also be feeling the same about you when you launch into speech mode. As such, you need to learn vocabulary, maintain it and nurture it to avoid bad speech habits and ensure that you can get your point across as and when you want to.

So what bad speech habits are you susceptible to? Well, the answer to this question varies from area to area and even between age groups because there are so many bad habits that can be picked up. For example, teens are likely to adopt language that they believe to be cool whereas older people are likely to become lazy and fail to use the vast majority of their vocabulary, falling instead into habits such as using shortened words.

One habit that everyone is prone to, no matter how advanced their learned vocabulary is, is using slang. Slang is essentially colloquial language and limits proper vocabulary.

So what can you do to prevent or avoid bad speech habits? The first thing is to identify any bad speech habits that you have become a victim of. It may be that you use slang regularly to the point at which your speech is limited. It may be that people around you have begun to speak in a certain way in line with their dialect or maybe even fashionable language, as per the title. Identification is the first point along the road. After that, you will be able to learn vocabulary and avoid bad habits effectively.

After identifying the bad speech habits you have fallen into, you will also need to look for a solution because being aware of bad habits is not enough. You will often find that you have become so accustomed to speaking in a certain way that you do so without thinking about it. This is why you need to adopt a learning vocabulary program to correct the problems.

How does adopting a program to learn vocabulary prevent these bad habits? Many programs will expand your vocabulary, giving you alternative words to use in the correct contexts and will thus help to reprogram your brain. This is done subconsciously and actively helps to cut out bad habits present and those that may occur in the future.

Vocabulary software is one of the more popular and effective ways to achieve this so check out your options today.
