Repeating words on the board

The word GOAT was played in our game. My competitor then tried to place GOAT on another location of the board. Is this valid?

Sure is! Neither Alfred Butts (the inventor of Scrabble) nor any subsequent owner of Scrabble, has ever introduced a rule to prevent repeated words from being played. I've even seen the odd seven letter word repeated in official tournament games. In fact it usually gets a mention, because it's much less likely to happen with long words than with short words like GOAT, which happens all the time.

This is one of those interesting myths that has developed around Scrabble. I don't know where it came from, but I hope my reply helps dispel it.

Cheers,

P.S. I prefer not to publish anonymous posts. Can you please provide me with your first name (or just your initials, if you prefer), along with your state or country. Don't worry - nobody will be able to track you down from that information ;-) You can reply to an email from Word-Buff if you like - or just use the Comments link below.

Thanks muchly.
